I was filming Jupiter the night between Wednesday and Thursday for the second time this fall, and I noticed at Stellarium a little earlier that Io was crossing Jupiter. I’ve once managed to capture a small snippet of Ion overflow and thought I’m trying to get some sort of animation of the event. I peeked into the telescope eyepiece before I started shooting and noticed that the Ion shadow was very clearly visible on the surface of Jupiter, so suddenly just the camera stuck in the tube and the sessions were upright.

Yllättävän onnistunut kuvasarja kohtuullisen huonolla seeingillä, olin itsekin yllättynyt siitä, kuinka hyvin tuosta loppujen lopuksi irtosi yksityiskohtia.

Hieno on!

Tässä animaatiota tuijottaessa huomasin tuossa Ion tullessa Jupiterin päälle tuommoisen mustan reunuksen. Onko se todellinen vai käsittelyssä syntynyt?

Eiköhän tuo ole ihan registax6:n sekoilua, raakamateriaalissa ei näy mitään tuontapaista, joten varmaan R6/wavelettien säädöstä tullut härö.

Hätkähdyttävän hieno Jupiter-havainto, ja vielä gif-animaatio, joka ehkä osaltaan helpottaa noiden tarkkojen yksityiskohtien näkemistä.
