Binocular comet ATLAS - 1.4.2020 at 21.34 - 1.4.2020 at 22.45 Hyvinkää Observation number 89557

Visibility III / V

Timo Inkinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The evening of April Day offered Hyvinkää the opportunity to shoot comet C / 2019 Y4 Atlas as soon as it got dark, but this time a bigger disadvantage than the yard birches was the cloud front that arrived quickly from the west, which stopped filming. This stack now has 52 x 75s (total 65min) partial exposures from a 2x2 bonded ASI183MM camera and I think the end result is a bit more balanced than my observation on March 30, 2020. For some reason, I didn’t manage to remove comet remnants from the starry sky stack this time with PixInsight’s Comet Alignment tool, so I did it more slowly by hand with the CloneStamp tool, but with caution for stars under the comet in cloning the sky.

The inverted, lower-resolution image is slightly more strongly stretched than that native 2x2 bin black-and-white image, but really, a longer total exposure time and a brighter imaging tube would be needed at this stage to reveal the comet's tail. I quickly estimate the diameters of the Koma and tail from the image, so they are probably "there" (the image field is 37.4 'x 25.0' / diagonal 45 '). Get fixed!

    • Kuvauksen alkaessa vallitsi vielä "merenkulkijan hämärä" eli Aurinko oli vasta noin -12 astetta horisontin alapuolella. Alkuun hyvä läpinäkyvyys, mikä heikkeni tunnissa keskinkertaiseksi ja lopulta kelvottomaksi pilvirintaman tultua taivaalle.
